St. John lies a 20-minute ferry boat ride east, or right, of St. Thomas. It is the smallest of the 3 U.S. Virgin Islands, and the most unspoiled one, as 2/3 is National Park. When everyone is home at the same time, some 4,000 friendly residents and approximately 400 asses live on the island. That is a ration of 10 to 1 - not bad...The wild donkeys were counted by the National Park last year.
